Mrs. Poertner’s 6th, 7th and 8th grade Read 180 classes participated in a service project “Operation Christmas Child.” The purpose of the project was to share literature and education globally with kids who are less fortunate. Over a period of several weeks the students collected stuffed animals, picture books, coloring books, crayons, shoeboxes and money to ship the boxes. The students then wrapped and filled the shoe boxes with messages of hope and the items they collected. Parents joined their students in the classroom and assisted with wrapping and filling shoe boxes. The students learned the gift of giving and the satisfaction and pride that comes when thinking of others! The students and Mrs. Poertner would like to thank the teachers and parents who supported this project!! The three classes filled and shipped a total of 30 boxes of which we will be able to track and know their final destination! Click the title link above to access pictures.
Mrs. Poertner’s Read 180 students participated in a Fall Break Reading Challenge. All participants who completed the requirements were part of a VIP celebration which included a visit from the Principal and parents. All participants were rewarded with a Certificate of Recognition and a goody bag. CONGRATULATIONS!

Snow Days With the weather turning cooler, we are reminded that winter will be here before long, including the frozen white stuff (snow) that is both looked forward to and dreaded. This is a reminder that we have snow days built into our school calendar, and we request that vacations not be scheduled on these days when we may have school to make up for missed days due to snow or other inclement weather. Make up dates are listed on our calendar. Clicking the "Snow Days" title link above will also show the complete list of make-up days.
